    Identified Civil War Canteen Geert Zoulen 51st Wisconsin Infantry - Inventory Number: CAN 158

    The 51st Wisconsin Infantry was organized at Camp Washburn in Milwaukee from March 20-April 29, 1865, at the very end of the war. Companies G through K were not needed and mustered out a week later, on May 6, 1865.

    The remainder of the regiment moved to St. Louis, Missouri, in May 1865 where it was assigned to duty at St. Louis, Warrensburg, and along the Pacific Railroad. It mustered out at Madison August 16-30, 1865. The regiment lost 16 men during service, all from disease.

    Enlisted on 3/13/1865 as a private from Milwaukee into company “B”.  He was mustered out on 8/29/1865.
