  • Model 1840 Ames Cavalry Saber

    Model 1840 Ames Cavalry Saber - Dated 1846 - Name "E. Harris" and date of "1847" on the underside of the guard.  Soldier was said to have history with both the Texas Cavalry in the Mexican War and the Civil War.   Marked on the obverse riccasso is “U.S. / NWP” (stamping deep and crisp). The reverse ricasso has “N.P. AMES / CABOTVILLE / 1846”.  The tight, brass hilt retains the original buff leather washer and a domed pommel cap.  Grips are in excellent condition with the original black bridle leather.  Twisted brass wire wrap is strong and tight.  Brass hilt, with its two-branch guard and knucklebow, is tightly secured to the tang. The original steel scabbard retains its throat piece and two sword ring bands.
