    The State of North Carolina One Dollar - North Carolina Currency, One Dollar Note, RALEIGH, OCT. 15th, 1861.  Currency was issued by the North Carolina state government October 15th, 1861.  Inscription reads:  "THE State of North Carolina / No. 1654 WILL PAY TO BEARER  / ONE DOLLAR / AT THE  TREASURY / On or before January 1st, 1866 /  RALEIGH OCT. 15th, 1861.  / (signed) S H Perry for Pub. Treas’r. / Receivable in payment of Public Dues.”  Left venette is Minerva, Roman Goddess of Commerce.  The print is black and on plain paper with ONE DOLLAR printed in red on the reverse.  Date is printed, serial number is hand inscribed-No. 1654, signature is hand signed.
