Confederate Script “I” Button - Inventory Number: CON 475 / SOLD

A wonderful condition, non-dug example of a CS army infantry button as worn on the uniforms of Confederate soldiers. The brass, coat-size button is of two-piece construction with a border. The handsome, glided, convex button retains highlights of its original gold gilt on the face but has acquired a more bronze patina overall. Button is excellent plus and is classed as a CS175A1 in A.H. Albert's reference volume. The circular, 23-mm, 2-piece brass button exhibits a single letter "I" completed in lined manuscript old English form displayed on a plain, unlined field. Backside excellent with strong tight shank. Has a sharp and distinct backmark of "HALFMANN & TAYLOR / MONTGOMERY / ALABAMD". RV25. This original Confederate infantry script "I" button is a fine original specimen and would make an excellent addition to any Civil War button display.

Comes housed in 5 x 6 riker display case with black velvet and descriptive card.
