Civil War–era Hymn Book for the Army and Navy, a small-format devotional volume distributed to Union soldiers during the war. Published by the American Tract Society and presented by the United States Christian Commission, this book represents the spiritual and moral support provided to soldiers in camp, hospital, and field.

 

The book retains its original printed paper wrappers, with a patriotic illustrated cover depicting a soldier holding the national flag beneath the title “Hymn Book for the Army and Navy.” The interior title page and contents are present, including indexed hymns and soldier-themed selections such as “Soldiers of Christ”, reflecting the religious tone encouraged among Union troops.
