Description
Revised Regulations for the Army of the United States,
1861 Signed by Daniel Cole of the US Secret Service
1861 edition of Revised Regulations for the Army of the United States, issued by authority of the War Department on the eve of the American Civil War. Printed in Philadelphia by J. G. L. Brown, this important military manual governed discipline, organization, drill, and daily operations of the U.S. Army at the outbreak of hostilities.
This example retains its original blue cloth binding with gilt-stamped spine reading Revised U.S. Army Regulations, 1861, complete with the Federal eagle device. The volume shows expected period wear, including edge fraying and surface scuffing, consistent with age and use.
Of particular interest, the front endpaper bears a period ink signature “D. Cole”, dated December 16, 1863, placing the ownership squarely within the Civil War years. Scarce tie to the Secret Service during the war.
