Description
Glazed Brownware Inkwell
Well-documented among Civil War–era artifact collections and frequently recovered from identified camp and civilian sites. This example features a rich mottled brown glaze on fired clay. The cone form is less commonly encountered than the shorter, squared-shoulder cylindrical type and typically commands a premium. Found at dug sites associated with both Union and Confederate use, though the cone shape is more frequently documented in Southern contexts. Recovered in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Excellent plus condition, with crisp incised rings near the top. Measures approximately 2 ½”, base 2”, opening 1”.
