Description

Model 1863 U.S. Combination Musket Tool

Excellent high condition example of the classic U.S. Model 1863 combination musket tool, designed for the maintenance and disassembly of percussion muskets and rifle-muskets of the mid-19th century. This well-conceived tool incorporates two screwdriver blades along with an open-end nipple wrench, which itself terminates in an additional screwdriver blade—providing the soldier or armorer with a compact, multi-functional implement for field service.

Examples of this pattern saw continued use throughout the Civil War, accompanying a wide range of U.S. service arms. This specimen retains a smooth iron surface with strong traces of original blue finish, an increasingly scarce feature on tools of this type. The form remains crisp and well-defined, with only light, honest wear consistent with careful period use.

A desirable and essential Civil War accoutrement, offering both functionality and strong visual appeal—particularly with the survival of original finish. An excellent representative example for the advanced collector of U.S. martial tools.
