Ring Jug Canteen
Rare surviving stoneware canteen . A near identical pattern is held in the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, with a provenance dating back to the Revolution. During the Civil War it was carried by a Confederate Soldier, a grandson of the original owner. Constructed of red earthenware construction, with a spout at the top. The canteen is quite sound, with only minor chipping on the lip of the spout and a hairline horizontal crack. “Civil War Canteens” by Sylvia & O’Donnell, giving details on this pattern canteen and its use dating back 400 years.
