Description

Belgian Liège Model 1777 Flintlock Musket with Bayonet

Belgian Liège Model 1777 pattern flintlock musket in .69 caliber smoothbore, offered with its associated socket bayonet.

The steel components retain a consistent dark brown patina throughout. The lock is engraved in flowing script “Manufacture Impériale de Liège” (partially visible), with a “V” stamp present in multiple locations including the lock plate, side plate, and atop the buttplate. The lock retains its brass pan with unbridled frizzen screw, and the frizzen and spring remain intact.

Mechanically, the cock does not hold at half or full cock, likely due to an issue with the internal sear spring. The left breech shows inspector-style markings, including “AF” and “D”, along with additional characters. The musket is stocked in a high-comb butt with cheek relief on the left side. A circular cavity on the right side of the butt has been period-filled with a wooden plug, surrounded by visible stamping. The neck of the stock exhibits a split crack running through.

The front barrel band spring is broken at the retaining nub, allowing the front band to travel forward. Both sling swivels are present. The ramrod retains a trumpet-shaped tip. The accompanying socket bayonet is missing its locking ring. The blade bears several markings, including an unidentified symbol and a “J” stamp, with a slight bend noted at the tip.

An honest Liège-produced martial arm with clear use, complete with bayonet and strong visual appeal.
