Description
Virginia State Seal Button
A beautiful Civil War-era Virginia state seal coat button featuring the classic standing figure of Virtus triumphing over tyranny, surrounded by a rim and finely detailed field. The face retains an attractive mellow gilt patina with strong definition to the state seal and lettering, giving the button exceptional display appeal.
The reverse is backmarked “Horstmann & Co. / N.Y. & Phil.”, identifying one of the most respected military goods outfitters and button manufacturers of the Civil War era. The original shank remains firmly intact, and the button exhibits pleasing untouched surfaces with honest period wear.
Virginia state buttons remain among the most sought-after Confederate-related buttons. An excellent example with strong eye appeal and historical significance.
