20th Maine Infantry Grouping
Original wartime brass stencil of private William H. Sanford of Palmero, Maine. Sanford enlisted in August of 1862 into Company “A” of the 20th Maine Infantry. He died February 17th, 1863. Including in the grouping are his brass regimental stencil which reads: W.H. Sanford Co. A. 20. R.ME.V.” which is the abbreviated form of Regiment Maine Volunteers. Also included with the group is a wonderful letter with a patriotic envelope written to Sanford’s sister Mary: from Sharpsburg August 5th 1862 Describing Lincoln’s Visit to camp. Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with black velvet and descriptive card.
