British Second Model Brown Bess .75 Caliber Socket Bayonet 

 

British Second Model socket bayonet designed for use with a .75 caliber Brown Bess musket. The steel displays a deep dark-brown, nearly black patina with a pleasing smooth luster. The three-sided blade measures approximately 12½ inches long. The blade flat below the socket bears numerous markings, including a crown over “51,” “51/L,” “P” and “No. 232.”

 

The socket has a closed-ended slot; however, the section that slides over the musket’s bayonet lug/front sight is split and broken. A small hairline crack is also present at the rear of the socket opposite the blade.

 

A heavily marked example of a British Brown Bess socket bayonet with an attractive untouched patina.
