$55.00
Description
Burnside Carbine Cartridge
Original Civil War-era Burnside Carbine cartridge, one of the most distinctive metallic cartridges used during the American Civil War. Designed by General Ambrose E. Burnside, the unique tapered brass case was developed specifically for the Burnside breechloading carbine, a firearm widely issued to Union cavalry regiments throughout the conflict.
This example retains its brass case and projectile, displaying the characteristic cone-shaped casing that made the Burnside system instantly recognizable. The Burnside cartridge represented an important advancement in military ammunition technology, providing cavalrymen with a faster-loading and more reliable alternative to traditional muzzle-loading arms.
The Burnside carbine saw extensive service in many major campaigns, including Gettysburg, Antietam, Chickamauga, and numerous cavalry operations across the Eastern and Western theaters.
Excellent display condition with attractive aged brass patina. The cartridge retains strong visual appeal and remains a fine example of Civil War metallic ammunition technology.
