Civil War Mini Cathedral Pickle Bottle
Excavated Camp Artifact
Rare and highly visual Civil War–era mini cathedral pickle bottle, excavated from a Civil War campsite and tumbled clean to stabilize the surface while retaining original form and character. This bottle exhibits the distinctive “cathedral” paneling, a popular mid-19th-century design inspired by Gothic architectural elements.
Produced in aqua glass with hand-blown characteristics, the bottle’s vertical panels and molded details made it both attractive and practical, commonly used for pickles, condiments, and preserved foods supplied through sutlers or private purchase. Cathedral pickle bottles are among the most recognizable and collectible forms of Civil War-period glass.
An excellent camp-recovered example, offering strong visual appeal and a direct connection to Civil War soldier life.
