Description
Civil War Period Rhode Island Staff Button
Exceptional Civil War period Rhode Island state staff button featuring a finely detailed fouled anchor within an ornate shield motif beneath the banner “HOPE,” the historic Rhode Island state motto. The reverse is crisply backmarked “D. EVANS & CO * ATTLEBORO, MASS,” a desirable Connecticut maker associated with quality mid-19th century military buttons.
This attractive two-piece brass button retains a rich untouched patina with excellent detail to the face and a strong intact shank to the reverse. A handsome example that would display beautifully in any advanced Civil War button collection, Rhode Island grouping, or militaria display.
