Confederate President Jefferson Davis – Inventory Number: PAI 016 / SOLD Beautiful steel engraving Ca. 1862.  The engraving is a portrait of Davis that was of an original painting by the famed artist Alonzo Chappel.   Beneath the image reads “From the Original Painting by Chappel in the possession of the Publishers.  Published by Johnson, Fry A. Co. Publishers, New York.  Also shown is a replica signature of Jeffersons just below the engraving. The visible engraving sheet measures 6 5/8″ x 8 5/8″ and the frame measures 13 5/8″ x 16 5/8”.  The engraving is housed in an impressive period frame with original lead glass.
