Description
Decorative Pair of Civil War Era Bayonet Candelabra
Exceptional and highly decorative pair of Civil War era bayonet candelabra, masterfully fashioned from socket bayonets and mounted into elaborate wrought iron scrollwork bases. These impressive period-made pieces transform utilitarian military arms into striking examples of Victorian martial folk art, blending battlefield relics with refined 19th century decorative craftsmanship.
Each candelabrum incorporates original Civil War socket bayonets as candle arms, retaining their distinctive locking rings and angular profiles, while the heavy hand-forged iron bases display elegant flowing scrollwork and substantial turned standards. The workmanship throughout is both artistic and functional, creating an unmistakable presentation piece with tremendous visual impact.
Martial lighting devices of this nature were often produced by veterans or skilled craftsmen during and immediately after the war, intended for use in patriotic halls, veteran organizations, or affluent homes wishing to commemorate the conflict. Surviving matched pairs are rarely encountered today, particularly examples of this scale and quality.
An outstanding display set combining Civil War history, early American decorative arts, and the enduring fascination with transforming instruments of war into objects of beauty.
