Owned by Chester R. Noyes, New Hampshire Heavy Artillery This wartime manual provided Union officers and artillerymen with critical instruction on the handling of field and heavy artillery. The 1863 edition, expanded to reflect changes in weaponry and carriage design, was used extensively in the field. This copy is personally inscribed by Chester R. Noyes, who served in the 1st New Hampshire Heavy Artillery—a unit stationed around Washington and later engaged in active operations in Virginia.
