An imposing Confederate Bowie knife measuring an impressive 21 1/4 inches in overall length with a massive 16-inch blade. This formidable Southern fighting knife displays the bold hand-forged character and rugged construction commonly associated with Confederate-made edged weapons of the Civil War period.

The knife features a long spear-point blade retaining a deep untouched dark patina throughout with scattered areas of honest oxidation consistent with age and use. The oversized iron crossguard is especially striking, formed into a large protective loop with sweeping lower quillon designed to offer substantial hand protection in close combat situations.

The wooden grip scales remain firmly secured by large iron rivets and exhibit attractive age, rich coloration, and pleasing wear from handling over time. The overall construction reflects the practical and often individualized craftsmanship seen in many Confederate knives produced in small regional shops and blacksmith forges throughout the South during the war.

Large Confederate Bowie knives of this scale were prized personal sidearms carried by soldiers, cavalrymen, scouts, and irregular troops. Surviving examples with such dramatic proportions and strong untouched appearance are increasingly difficult to locate and remain highly sought after by advanced collectors of Confederate edged weapons.
