Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber 

A well-preserved example of the Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber, retaining its original scabbard. The flat-backed blade remains bright overall, showing only light, scattered evidence of past cleaning. No visible maker’s markings are present on the blade.

The brass hilt exhibits a deep, untouched brown patina, consistent across both guard and pommel. The grip retains its original twisted wire wrap, which remains intact and secure. Much of the leather covering has worn away over time, revealing the underlying wood, most noticeably along the left side.

The matching steel scabbard displays a rich, dark brown patina with a smooth, even surface. The leather throat washer at the guard is no longer present.

A solid and honest Civil War cavalry saber, offering strong eye appeal with a nicely aged, untouched surface throughout.
