A very attractive Civil War-era New York waist belt plate executed in the popular “Excelsior” panel style pattern featuring a bold spread-winged eagle above martial trophies including crossed flags, cannon, drum, and military arms, all enclosed within an ornate decorative wreath border. This example retains a beautiful mustard-gold patina with pleasing age and strong eye appeal throughout.

The reverse remains completely intact with both original wire hooks and belt tongue present and firmly affixed. The plate exhibits honest period wear and natural age consistent with wartime use while maintaining crisp detail to the central motif and border design. Though utilizing patriotic eagle imagery commonly associated with Federal accoutrements, state plates of this style have long been collected for their distinctive wartime character and regional manufacture.
