Scarce and highly collectible American underhammer pistol, clearly marked on the barrel “CARROLL & CO. BALTIMORE,” a desirable regional maker active in the mid-19th century. This classic single-shot percussion pistol features the distinctive underhammer ignition system, prized for its simplicity, reliability, and direct ignition. 

The pistol retains a pleasing, untouched patina throughout, with a smooth metal surface and honest age. The octagonal-to-round barrel configuration is well executed, and the walnut grip exhibits attractive form with a rich, darkened surface from age and handling. The action appears complete, retaining its original configuration, and the overall profile is both elegant and functional—typical of better-quality American underhammer production.
