Silver and Gutta Percha Identification Pin James M. Tibbetts, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry

Silver identification pin in the form of a shield, set into a gutta percha backing. The silver shield is finely engraved with floral designs and “J. M. T. 2nd Mass. Reg.” James M. Tibbetts enlisted as a private in the 2nd Massachusetts Infantry in May 1861. He was captured during the First Battle of Winchester on May 25, 1862 and discharged for disability in April 1863. The pin measures 1” in height and is missing the rear attachment device. This pin was published in the May 1994 issue of North South Trader’s Civil War. A unique and attractive ID badge.  James M. Tibbetts – Residence Cambridgeport MA; a 41 year-old Carpenter. Enlisted on 5/25/1861 as a Private. On 5/25/1861 he mustered into “H” Co. MA 2nd Infantry. He was discharged for disability on 4/25/1863. He was listed as: POW 5/25/1862 Winchester, VA (“Probably a Prisoner”)
