U.S. Regulation Tin Cup 

 

An original Civil War-period U.S. regulation drinking cup constructed of tinned sheet iron. The cup features a cylindrical body with rolled upper and lower edges and a folded strap handle secured to the body. Cups of this type were issued to Union soldiers and formed an essential part of their field equipment, serving primarily for drinking water and coffee in camp and while on campaign.

The cup retains a pleasing dark, aged surface with expected oxidation, discoloration, scratches, and wear from period use. The handle remains firmly attached, and the cup displays well as a representative piece of a Union soldier’s everyday equipment.
