Cavalry Carbine Socket - Very nice example of a Civil War carbine socket also known as carbine boot. This was affixed to a saddle, to holster the carbine. Measures 2 1/2" high.
Constructed of two, double-layered pieces of heavy black harness leather, the pieces are folded and meet in a strongly stitched seam. The socket flares out at the top and bottom. The closure strap is of strong black bridle leather and has a large, japanned-iron harness buckle attached. Strap is stitched and riveted to the boot body. The closer strap is marked "E.H.S."
