This is a complete and authentic Civil War leather cartridge box for the military rifles. "The "US" is embossed on the outer flap. The outer surfaces of the box exhibit light wear from age and use. The outer flap has light to moderate crazing throughout. The box still has the closure tab and brass finial at the bottom. Both of the roller buckles are present on the bottom of the box. The back of the box has the entire belt and shoulder strap loops still intact. These were designed so the box could have been worn on the soldier’s belt or on the sling, whichever the soldier preferred. The inner flap is in nice shape, both ears are missing. The inspectors mark is present. On the innermost compartment it has both of the original tins that held the cartridges in place.
