    Thomas Turner Encore Civil War Pocket Knife - Inventory Number: EDG 032

    Center of the blade is marked with three diamonds and the words "Encore / Thomas Turner & Co".  The blade is signed "SUFFOLKWORKS SHEFFIELD" .  The handle is stag horn with steel bolsters and liners.  Overall length 7 1/4", length of blade 3 1/8" when opened.  

    Thomas Turner was founded in 1802 and granted a mark by the Cutlers' Company in 1805 of 'three diamonds with a peppercorn and the word "ENCORE" underneath".  They were located at the Suffolk Works, which fronted onto Suffolk Street and were bound by Turner Street, and the Porter Brook and River Sheaf which gave the impression that the works were on an island.
