New York Day Gettysburg Medal - This "GETTYSBURG VETERAN" medal reads "NEW YORK DAY GETTYSBURG JULY 1, 2, 3, 1893" in gold lettering on patriotic ribbon, which remains in excellent condition. The top of the bar has a garland design on the front and has a functioning pin and bar for suspending the ribbon. Suspended below the ribbon is a circular medal with a monument with an open book in front of a clump of trees. This is the High Water Mark of the Rebellion monument found on Cemetery Ridge. Around the edge is “HIGH WATER MARK” while across the bottom is “GETTYSBURG.” The reverse has a monument at center surrounded by “NEW YORK MONUMENT” this monument is the one erected by the State of New York in the Soldiers National Cemetery. This medal was given to Gettysburg veterans at the dedication of the New York state monuments July 1,2,3 1893.
