    North Carolina currency, 5 cents, January 1, 1863.   Currency was issued by the North Carolina state government January 1, 1863,  "THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA / Will pay to Bearer at the Treasury on or before  January 1st, 1866 / FIVE CENTS / BY AUTHORITY OF LAW. /  Raleigh /  RECEIVABLE IN PAYMENT OF ALL PUBLIC DUES".  The note depicts ladies Liberty and Peace in center.  The print is black, on plain paper, plain back.  Date is printed, serial number is hand inscribed - No. 3811, signature is hand signed.   Printing: " J. T. Paterson & Co., Augusta, Ga.".
