    The Lincoln Thank Offering Freedmen's Aid Society Pinback - Inventory Number: POL 049

    1" Pinback in very good condition with bust of Lincoln on the front and Whitehead & Hoag Company back paper, circa 1910.  The Freedmen's Aid Society was formed in 1861 for the purpose of supplying teachers for freed slaves and their children.  Some 500 schools and colleges were established by the Society following the Civil War.  In 1920, the group was reorganized and renamed the Board of Education for Negroes.  Lacking pin.  Very scarce pinback.
