“Jeff Davis” Hardee Hat Insignia – Inventory Number: INS 402 / SOLD Original stamped brass “Jeff Davis” or Hardee Hat eagle insignia used to pin up the side of the Army felt dress hat. Brass surface has an even mellow gold patina lacking the top loop, the bottom loop is present and firmly affixed to the reverse as well as the wire to crimp the hat brim.  This is an excellent original example, many on the market are reproduction examples or turn-of-the-century copies with incorrect affixing attachments.  This example is as good as they come!
