Description
Civil War Officer’s Sword Belt Plate
A handsome and well-preserved Union officer’s sword belt plate, featuring the classic high-relief spread-winged eagle clutching arrows and olive branch, framed by an elegant laurel wreath motif. This rectangular pattern brass plate was regulation wear for Union officers and NCOs, accompanying their sword belts throughout the war.
The plate retains excellent detail, with crisp feathering to the eagle, sharp wreath edges, and a finely pebbled background that highlights the raised elements beautifully. The single tongue bar on the reverse is intact, and the brass shows a rich, untouched patina consistent with careful preservation.
A strong representative example of a quintessential officer’s accoutrement.
Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
