1912 Board of Trade of the City of Chicago Medal
Identified to Jas. H. Buck 72nd, 88th, and 113th Illinois Infantry
Commemorative medal issued in August 1912 by the Board of Trade of the City of Chicago, honoring Illinois veterans of the Civil War.
The medal features an elaborate bronze top suspension depicting a classical allegorical female figure with wings, surmounted by a spread-wing eagle—symbolic of victory, patriotism, and national unity. The original dark blue silk ribbon remains intact and clearly printed in gilt with the following inscription:
Reception to the Board of Trade Battery and the
72nd Regiment
88th Regiment
113th Regiment
Ill. Vol. Infantry
By the Board of Trade of the City of Chicago
Aug. 6, 1912
The octagonal bronze planchet displays finely rendered relief imagery, including military, civic, and agricultural symbolism, reflecting both wartime service and postwar civic pride. The reverse is hand-engraved “Jas. H. Buck”, firmly identifying the medal to its original recipient, James H. Bock:
