Civil War Bullet Embedded in Wood – Recovered from Fredericksburg

This remarkable relic from the Battle of Fredericksburg features a Civil War-era bullet lodged in a fragment of wood, preserving the moment of impact from over 160 years ago. Likely fired from a .58 caliber rifled musket, the lead projectile struck and became embedded in the wood during the intense fighting that took place in Fredericksburg, Virginia, in December 1862.

Such battlefield artifacts offer a dramatic glimpse into the violence of Civil War combat, where thousands of rounds were exchanged amidst forests, fences, and fieldworks. This piece serves as a silent witness to one of the war’s most lopsided Union defeats, where terrain and entrenched Confederate positions turned the battlefield into a slaughterhouse.

A rare and evocative survivor, this bullet-in-wood artifact is a tangible connection to the brutal realities of 19th-century warfare.

Label reads: “Bullet in Wood from Fredericksburg.”

Wood measures approximately 1” x 1 ¾”.

Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
