Description
Remington New Model Police Revolver
A fine example of the Remington New Model Police revolver in .36 caliber percussion, manufactured by E. Remington & Sons of Ilion, New York during the Civil War period.
The top barrel flat is marked: PATENTED SEPT. 14, 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, NEW YORK, U.S.A. / NEW MODEL
Serial number 5575 is visible beneath the loading lever and consistent with early New Model Police production.
The New Model Police was Remington’s .36 caliber belt revolver, built on the same strong solid-frame design as the larger Model 1863 Army revolver. These were popular with officers, cavalrymen, and civilian purchasers during the war years.
This example retains a smooth, even gray-brown patina across the metal surfaces with scattered freckling consistent with age. The octagonal barrel remains sharp at the flats, and markings are clear and legible. The brass trigger guard displays a pleasing untouched mustard tone.
The grips are well-fitted and show honest wear from handling, adding to the revolver’s authentic Civil War era appearance.
A solid, honest Remington .36 with strong eye appeal — an excellent representative Civil War sidearm from one of America’s premier 19th-century arms makers.
