Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber by P.S. Justice 

A solid and desirable Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber manufactured by P.S. Justice of Philadelphia. The flat-backed blade exhibits a bright salt-and-pepper patina with scattered light spotting, more concentrated toward the tip. The maker’s mark, “P.S. Justice / Phila,” remains visible on the left side near the guard.  

The brass hilt shows a pleasing, even yellow-brown patina, undisturbed and consistent throughout. The grip retains its original leather covering, while the twisted wire wrap is now absent. A scalloped leather throat washer remains intact at the guard, an increasingly scarce survival.  The accompanying steel scabbard is mostly bright with light peppering and age spotting, presenting well overall. One small dent is noted toward the lower portion on the left side.  

A strong, honest example from a recognized Philadelphia maker, offering attractive condition and complete with its original scabbard.
