Description

Model 1858 Smooth Side Canteen – Inventory Number: CAN 140 / SOLD Classic Civil War U.S. issued smooth side canteen. This one retains all three strap loops and pewter spout. The original cork stopper and chain are attached to a hole punched in the top strap loop, a typical characteristic of canteens from the New York Depot. The body of the canteen is in good overall condition with two small holes near the bottom strap loop. The original commercial herringbone cotton twill style sling is complete, with one old, stitched repair. “Texas” is painted in white just below the spout. A nice representative Civil War canteen. A name or initials are lightly incised into the spout, possibly an identification.   Inventory Number: CAN 140 / SOLD
