Description

1862 Confederate Imprint – Owned by Lt. Col. Nathan L. Hutchins Jr., 16th Georgia Infantry

Rare Confederate imprint: Acts of the General Assembly of the State of Georgia, Passed in Milledgeville at the Annual Session in November and December, 1861. Printed in Milledgeville by Boughton, Nisbet & Barnes, State Printers, 1862.

This volume was owned by Nathan L. Hutchins Jr. (1835–1907) of Gwinnett County, Georgia, who served with the 16th Georgia Infantry and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel during the Civil War. Prior to the conflict, Hutchins was a prominent attorney and later a judge, establishing his law practice in Gwinnett County during the 1850s.

The book bears Hutchins’s ownership inscription on the interior front cover: “N.L. Hutchins Atty. at Law.” The volume shows age toning and foxing consistent with its period but remains intact, a significant piece of Confederate-era legal and military history.

A scarce Georgia Confederate imprint with strong personal association to a noted officer and attorney.
