1862 Dated .69 Caliber Cartridge Box

 

A very good example of a Civil War cartridge box designed to hold 69. caliber cartridges. Leather is in great condition, soft, minor surface crackling. The strap is original to the box and has never been cut for the circular breast plate. The maker has stamped their name into the inside flap “J.B. THAXTER, PORTLAND, ME 1862”. Front flap has a fine US box plate attached which is original to the box. Scarce with the Maine mark and 1862 date.
