Description

Abraham Lincoln Tintype on S. Wing Patent Star-Border Mount (1863)

A rare and highly collectible Civil War–era Lincoln tintype, mounted in S. Wing’s patented embossed star-border carte de visite mount. The small portrait of President Abraham Lincoln is housed within a beautifully detailed oval frame surrounded by a ring of embossed stars — a patriotic design patented October 13, 1863, by S. Wing of Boston.

Printed along the lower margin:

“PATENTED OCT. 13, 1863, S. WING, 229 WASHINGTON ST., BOSTON.”

These Wing patent mounts are scarce and surviving examples containing original tintypes of Lincoln are even more desirable. The image retains good contrast, and the iconic star-embossed border presents beautifully.

A superb and display-ready artifact combining both photographic and patriotic art forms.

Comes housed in a 6 x 8 inch display case with black velvet backing and descriptive card.
