Bone / Amputation Saw
This saw is an US Army Amputation Saw. These types of saws were commonly used in surgical procedures during the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly for amputations. Blade is serrated for cutting through bone. The handle is straight and designed for a firm grip. The spine is reinforced to prevent flexing during the amputation. Maker marked, “W & H Hutchinson Sheffield.” W & H Hutchinson was a known cutlery and surgical instrument manufacturer during the Civil War. Overall length 10 3/4″. Blade measures approximately 6 3/4″.
