Description
Civil War Belt with US Buckle and Army Model Left-Handed Holster
An original Civil War–era enlistedman’s leather waist belt fitted with its regulation oval “US” plate buckle of brass face and lead-filled back. The buckle exhibits an untouched, mellow patina from age and service. The belt itself shows expected period wear, with surface crazing and additional adjustment holes visible, consistent with field use.
Attached to the belt is a scarce left-handed Army Model percussion revolver holster, designed for wear on the right side with butt-forward draw. This distinctive reverse configuration is far less common than standard right-handed holsters and was issued in limited numbers during the war. The holster retains its original flap, a portion of the fastening tab, and plug. The leather exhibiting honest wear and scuffing but remaining very supple overall. Such complete belt rigs—with both buckle and holster surviving together—are increasingly difficult to find. The left-handed holster is a particularly desirable variant for advanced collectors of Civil War cavalry and mounted accoutrements.
