Description

Civil War Brass Bridle Chain G.A.R. Tag in Calligraphy

This battlefield picked-up brass curb chain is complete and in good condition.  Curb chains are a flat linked chain that ran under the chin groove of a horse as part of the curb bit.  Examples of this relic are pictured in “Civil War Artifacts” by Howard Crouch and also in Stanley S. Phillip’s book “Excavated Artifacts From Battlefields and Campsites of The Civil War Supplement One”.  This chain measures approximately 9 inches in length and is accompanied by its original ink tag from the G.A.R. Hall Relic Board “Cavalry Bridle Chain, with the battle written beside it that could be read with some effort.  Neat early Dragoon relic.  It will be an excellent example to add to any excavated Civil War campsite, battlefield, or general relic collection.

Comes housed in 8 x 12 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card.
