Civil War Enlisted Artillery Crossed Cannon Insignia

Original Civil War U.S. enlisted artillery crossed cannon insignia, executed in the classic stamped brass pattern with excellent definition remaining to the gun tubes, cascabels, and trunnion details. The insignia displays a pleasing untouched patina and strong wartime character throughout.

These crossed cannon served as the branch-of-service insignia for Federal artillery troops and were worn prominently upon forage caps and other military headgear during the Civil War. Authentic wartime examples have become increasingly difficult to locate, particularly those retaining strong detail and untouched surfaces.

The artillery arm played a decisive role throughout the conflict, from the massed batteries at Gettysburg to the prolonged siege operations before Petersburg. Worn by the men serving the guns under some of the harshest battlefield conditions of the war, these insignia remain among the most iconic symbols of the Union artillery service.

A strong original Civil War artillery insignia with excellent display appeal and increasingly scarce wartime authenticity.
