Description
Civil War–Era Dark Glass Wine/Ale Bottle
The bottle is formed in a deep olive-to-black glass, exhibiting a smooth, elongated body with a pronounced shoulder and tapered neck, typical of hand-blown production of the era.
The base features a deep push-up (kick-up), a hallmark of 19th- bottles intended to strengthen the vessel and aid in sediment collection. The glass shows scattered surface wear, light scratches, and minor imperfections from manufacture and age, all consistent with genuine period use. No cracks or structural damage noted. Measures approximately 11 1/2″ x 3″.
Bottles of this type would have been commonly encountered in camps, officer messes, sutler stocks, and field headquarters, serving both practical and social roles during wartime. Surviving examples in this condition make excellent display pieces for Civil War collections, military camp scenes, or period glass groupings.
