Civil War Era Saber Bayonet with Scabbard – Serial #38,998

 

This is an attractive example of a Civil War–period saber bayonet, complete with its original leather scabbard. The bayonet features a cast brass ribbed grip with integral crossguard and muzzle ring, showing a warm, untouched patina from age. The ricasso and guard are clearly stamped with the serial number 38,998, confirming its pairing with a specific longarm during the war.

 

The steel blade retains a mottled gray patina with scattered light pitting from service use, while the brass hilt shows honest wear consistent with handling and field use. The original leather scabbard remains intact, fitted with brass throat and tip mounts, a desirable survival given the fragility of leather accoutrements from this period.

 

A solid, complete example for any Civil War edges weapons collection.
