Description

Civil War Leather Neck Stock

Civil War black leather military neck stock, a regulation piece of soldier’s accoutrements worn to support the collar and maintain the erect military bearing expected of the period. Constructed of heavy black leather, this example retains its original adjustment tab and leather keeper, exhibiting the distinctive curved profile designed to fit comfortably around the neck beneath the uniform collar.
Neck stocks were standard issue for U.S. soldiers during the antebellum period and continued to see use throughout the Civil War, particularly with dress uniforms, militia organizations, and for formal inspections. While often disliked by soldiers for their restrictive fit, they remain an iconic piece of 19th-century military equipment.

This example displays an attractive, untouched patina with honest age and wear consistent with military service. The leather remains supple, and the stock retains its original form, making it an excellent representative example for display alongside a Civil War uniform, mannequin, or military accoutrement collection.
