Civil  War Letter of Miron Barstow, 25th Wisconsin Infantry – Inventory Number: DOC 262 / SOLD
Letter written by Miron Barstow, who enlisted in August 1862 as a corporal in the 25th Wisconsin. Barstow writes home from Snyder’s Bluff, Mississippi on July 17,1863 about the widespread illness in the camp he describes as a “damned hole” and that one man dies every day. He describes a gunboat operation up the Yazoo River and describes the Confederate Vicksburg prisoners as looking “down in the mouth.” He continues about food and writes that he lives on crackers and stewed apples. Miron Barstow died in September from disease in Helena Arkansas. The letter is in blue ink on patriotic stationery.
