Civil War Silk 2nd Corps Veteran’s Ribbon

Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps – 1st Artillery, Batteries F & G

Rare original silk veteran’s ribbon honoring service in Batteries F and G, 1st Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps Artillery (P.R.V.C.). Constructed of deep red silk with gold printed lettering and devices, the ribbon reads:

“Patriots / F. and G. / 1st Artillery / P.R.V.C.”

The central motif features a 2nd corps badge, surrounded by stars, symbolizing unity and service. The ribbon terminates in its original silver bullion fringe, a high-quality feature associated with post-war veterans’ commemorative ribbons rather than mass-produced GAR badges.

The Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps, formed in 1861, was one of the most distinguished state organizations in the Union Army. Its artillery batteries saw hard service with the Army of the Potomac, participating in major engagements including the Peninsula Campaign, Second Manassas, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg, where the Pennsylvania Reserves played a prominent role in the defense of their home state.

The condition is very good for a fragile silk item of this type, with strong color, legible printing, and intact fringe, showing only light age wear consistent with period use.

An excellent Civil War veteran ribbon, directly tied to one of Pennsylvania’s most respected wartime artillery units.

Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
